Current Market Culture - Network Marketing Strategies; For Today's Network Marketer

Cold Calling Ain’t So Bad After All

cold-callingI think I may ruffle a few features with this one; because I think the term “cold calling” is almost like a curse word or something. Not just in network marketing – but in general.

If you’ve ever been screamed at on the phone, rejected before you can even explain yourself, or hung up on – you’re going to find some value in this article.

Cold calling has probably done the two following things in your past:

1. It scared the living daylights out of you
2. It really ticked off the person you called

And although I’ve often wondered why this happens to honest networkers like myseslf (yes it’s true… I do really boring things like ponder why people hate cold calling), I think I may have finally figured it out. Here’s what I discovered….

You probably hate cold calling because you’re scared of rejection. No surprise here. And the people receiving your cold call hate to be sold. No surprise there either.

But here’s the kicker…

I’ve pretty much found a way to eliminate the fear of calling cold that’s so simple that you’re going to kick yourself.

There’s a very easy way to turn a cold call into mutually beneficial conversation; and quite possibly a new business relationship. There are just 5 things you have to ensure are in place. You can think of these as a cold calling checklist…

1. Don’t sell – sort. In network marketing it is not your job to sell your opportunity. Your marketing materials will do that for you. Just focus on finding the right people and move on.

2. Be nice, but be confident. People can sniff out fear from a mile away; and they pounce on it. Have confidence in the way you speak. Stand up and move around if you have to.

3. Offer some value to the person you are calling. Make sure they understand that there is a ton of value in what you have to offer.

4. Know what you’re talking about and know who you’re calling. Do some quick research on the internet on the person you’re contacting if possible.  Stuttering and stumbling over what to say is a sure shot way to get hung up on.

5. Have lots of energy. Most people who work for a living are not all that energetic about what they do. And if you bring more energy than they are use to – they’re more likely to hear you out.

With all these things in place, I can never really see a cold call going all that bad. Can you?

In all honesty – with all the talk of new marketing strategies using bought leads and online marketing; I think that we as an industry have lost sight of a valuable prospect generating tool. Cold calling can be an amazing way to meet interested prospects and it really works if you do it right.

But just like there are failures in network marketing who dump on our industry (think of all those nasty blogs) – I simply believe there are a bunch of people who just aren’t all that great at cold calling that give this awesome method a bad rap as well.

I think calling cold is extremely effective and even fun – just like any other marketing strategy if done correctly and with some focus.

What do you think?

To your massive success,

Chuk.
