Hey there. Hope all is well.
Yesterday I did a post on what to do when an opportunity meeting goes wrong. If you missed it, you can find it right here:
When An Opportunity Meeting Goes Wrong…
That post was helpful to all it’s readers, no doubt – but it kind of left me wishing I provided some tips on how to actually run a great opportunity meeting as well. Because at the end of the day – it’s all about running effective presentations for your business, and using those presentations to bringing new people in.
So… here are some things that I follow religiously whenever I do a business presentation for my opportunity. I really hope this helps.
1. Be on time. Simple I know – but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen guests arrive to a presentation 15 minutes early looking for the person that invited them. If your meeting starts at 7:30pm then be there for 7:00pm – 30 minutes early. 99% of the time this will ensure you are there before your guests. Nothing looks worse to your guests than being late for the meeting you invited them to.
2. Edify the guest speaker properly. This means that the guest speaker for the night must to introduced properly. Mention accolades, interests, and even hardships to make things real for the guests.
3. Cue any videos or slide presentations ahead of time. Fumbling with blank screens and loss of sound will simply make you look unprofessional. Maybe do a couple of practise runs to make sure things are smooth.
4. NO alcohol. This will help ensure that people make proper decisions. I’ve seen intoxicated people sign up one day; then cancel the next. There’s nothing wrong with drinking, but just not at a business presentation.
5. Close the meeting properly. The worst thing you can say at the end of the meeting is “so… do you have any questions?” Of course people have questions but you don’t want to turn the meeting into a battle arena for people wanting to shoot you down in front of a crowd. I like to break the room up according to A) who’s interested in getting started and B) who’s got questions. The people who aren’t interested in the opportunity will figure out what to do with themselves.
I’d also recommend Black Belt Recruiting by Mike Dillard for your team – to help with the closing part. This resource has got some key training that will help people in your circle answer questions like “how much money do you make?” or “…is this a pyramid scam?” You can find the resource right here:
Of course there are many more tips I could give you – but these 5 are ones that I really do follow for every meeting I’m involved in. If you follow them, I’m sure they’ll help you do better meetings too.
All the best,
Chuk.
